India

One of the major causes of poverty in India is illiteracy.

India still has the world’s largest number of poor people in a single country. Of its nearly 1 billion inhabitants, an estimated 350-400 million are below the poverty line, 75 per cent of them in the rural areas. More than 40 per cent of the population is illiterate, with women, tribal and scheduled castes particularly affected.

School attendance is low

School attendance, especially in the rural and poor urban districts of India is low and a staggering 40% of children do not complete primary school. Education is not seen as a priority for many Indian families as it is considered irrelevant to they everyday life. Yet without appropriate education children of today face a hopeless future.

What can be done?

Promoting and organizing basic education programs for children and young adults.

Europe

The major cause of poverty in Europe is unemployment

Europe is facing a new era where large companies do not ensure any more a secure job until retirement, therefore employees face difficult hiring and easy firing. The traditional cycle of school-to-work-to-retirement is changing rapidly.

For many decades people have been educated to look for a job, rather than to create it.

In developed countries Social Security assures some kind of temporary aid to unemployed people, either by assisting them to find a new job or supply them with new, more marketable skills. However the problem of unemployment will not be solved until the demand for job will be higher than the offer.

Attention must be given to entrepreneurship education

Current unemployment in Europe is greatly caused by the fact that for many decades people have been educated to look for a job, rather than to create it. EducationHUMANITAS European actions are driven by the strong belief that sustainable economy, therefore reduction of unemployment can be achieved through the creation of new enterprises, because they will generate new employments, consequently wealth for all.
Therefore attention must be given to entrepreneurship education, which will mobilize new manpower into enterprise creation, therefore will generate new employments for all.

What can be done?

Promoting and organizing entrepreneur-education programs for young adults will positively influence the attitude towards creating self-emloyment.

With approximately half the population of Moldova currently living below the poverty line, this country has the unfortunate distinction of being the poorest country in Europe.

The majority of unemployed Moldovans - 68 per cent - are women. Women earn 70 to 80 per cent of a man’s salary and are three times as likely to lose their job as a man.

What can be done?

Women’s participation in business represents a positive alternative to unemployment and will enable woman to become more independent by earning ther own life.
